I happened upon this quote tonight as I was doing my daily reading. It brought me down and interesting path and I would like to share with you.
Life has no playbook, blueprint, or even set of instructions. It's just a bunch of trial and error or so it would seem. Sometimes it seems the harder we try to achieve our goals the more we tend to fail. The harder we work, the more sweat and effort we pour into intentions the more it seems we often time just fall inches short of what we are trying to accomplish. Most of the time it's our own fault. At least it has been in my experience. I have gone to great personal expense to change my life for the better. Personal growth is my special talent. I have more self help books than I can count. The only problem is I was under the impression that by buying the book, I would become smarter and gain the knowledge from the book.
Not so much or soon I would realize. First of all, you have to read the books, not just buy them. That should really be a no brainer. If you purchase the books, but just set them on a shelf then you get no value out of them. Zero. So if you have any books you haven't read yet. but they are just sitting on a shelf just gathering dust, pull them out. Who knows what you might learn.
Another thing, thirty days doing anything DOES NOT create a new habit. It just doesn't. I don't care what you have read, watched, or heard about creating habits. Sometime ago, I started doing some reading early in the morning. It changed my life. I was talking differently, acting differently and even watching different things and listening to different music. There was even a episode where some people at work thought I may be on drugs just due to the behavioral changes. I did this for a period of about six weeks. More than the thirty days that so many people have said it takes to change a habit.
Then it all changed I slipped back into old habits. Listening to the same old music, acting the same ways I used to.
The moral of the story is this...
Pay attention to what you are doing at all points in time. Be self aware and you can break the mold and do something really spectacular. IF you just choose to go with the flow, then you are just floating along. I have learned my lesson and from now on I will do what I have promised myself and I will pay attention to what I say and how I behave. This is something I have total and complete control over.
Maybe when I start doing these things then I will have figured out how to live. If I can do this, then maybe I will be on to something.
Have a great week everybody.
