If you haven't seen foursquare - you need to check it out first
I have been learning about the social networking site, foursquare for about two weeks now. While I'm no foursquare master, I think foursquare might be hotter than Twitter for 2010. It's location based service is not new to the social networking scene. Brightkite lead the charge as early as 2008 merging location based service, twitter-esque posts, and picture sharing they led broke ground with this extraordinary model.
Foursquare currently is in the same mode as Twitter was in 2007. I remember watching Twitter from afar being an old school marketer and remarking to collegues that "this will NEVER work." While other services missed their mark, Twitter had the "mojo" and was very successful. Foursquare is a very reputation for success in larger markets such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.
Yes it does have some cool Twitter tie-ins. I believe it's done a little better. You can tweet your check-ins which you can do manually so if your trying to stay on the "dl", you can direct message your friends on Foursquare, and you can find your Twitter friends that use Foursquare. In addition, iPhone users have the advantage once again with the Foursquare app for the iPhone. It's pretty cool so download and check it out, it's free.
Enough talking about it....
It's a game, it's social networking, it's just for fun. I'm still learning and you can too. Check out foursquare and tell me what you think. You can catch me always at Foursquare @nealhopps.
Have a great night!
